Avocado has to be the number one food when it comes to polarizing people's opinions.
You might be one of these people who love this savory fruit. You'll find any excuse to put it in sandwiches, burritos, omelets, and you'll add guacamole to everything!
And then there's the others. 'Slimy green mush' seems to generally sum up how some people feel about the avocado.
Despite this, even the biggest avocado phobic can't deny the health benefits.
Avocados have been proven to lower blood pressure, reduce the likelihood of heart attacks and strokes, and lower cholesterol.......things that all of us in the western world need to do.
But here's the ugly truth. You can be bashed over the head many times with the 'avocado is good for you' phrase, but if you genuinely don't like it, you're not likely to stick at eating it long term.
Sure, your will power might make you eat avocados for a few weeks on a health kick, but very soon, you'll give up. The health benefits associated with eating avocados isn't something that can happen in a matter of weeks.
So today, we're going to show you 3 easy, quick ways you can get avocado into your meals. And you won’t even be able to tell it's in there!
We've found 3 clever ways to use avocados that will make you think twice, even if you're the most ardent avocado hater.
Believe or not, it's the actually creaminess (or 'sliminess' if you're an avocado loather) that creates the most decadent of chocolate mousses. Yet the chocolate completely masks the taste of avocado!
Choose a dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa solids) as it masks the avocado taste much more than milk chocolate, or you could add mint leaves.
Take 3/4 cup of chocolate and melt it in a heatproof bowl over simmering water on a stove. Add some mint leaves, if using. Now add maple syrup (add as much as you want, depending on how sweet your tooth is) and combine well.
Split and pit 1 avocado and scoop up the flesh. Take the chocolate off heat and mix in the avocado flesh. Now pour everything into a blender and blend till smooth. Top with fruit pieces, coconut shavings, or devour on its own!
Pistachio & Avocado Ice Cream:
Yes, you can make ice cream with avocado and, do it our way, all avocado taste is obliterated!
Soak 3/4 cup of shelled pistachios overnight. Then, add 1 tablespoon of lemon or lime juice and process the pistachios in a food processor till smooth.
Split and pit 1 avocado and scoop up the flesh, and then add to the processed pistachios.
Now add some honey (depending on how sweet you like your ice cream), a drop of vanilla essence, and process again till smooth.
Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of milk, little by little, until you get a mousse consistency. Pour the mixture into a shallow container and freeze. You'll be a convert once you've tasted this!
Yes, we also fell off our seat when we heard you could make bread with avocado!
Preheat your oven to 180°F. Split and pit 2 large avocados and scoop up the flesh.
Add to a blender, add 3 eggs, and about 1/3 cup of olive oil. Blend until smooth.
In a mixing bowl, mix together 1/2 cup of flax seeds and 1 cup of ground almonds with a pinch of salt and pepper. Now add the avocado mixture in and mix well till it's all smooth.
Grease a loaf tray and spoon in the mixture. Scatter some sunflower and/or pumpkin seeds on top, and bake for 30 minutes – delicious!
