I have been getting emails about easy to make desserts. Specifically, a number of you wanted dessert recipes that do not have anything to do with baking. So I guess most of you don’t like cakes or pastries? Also, do leave a comment below as to why is that so.
Anyway, I love getting emails from you guys and would love to do what I can to answer them. And here is my reply and suggestion for you non cake lovers out there.
1 vanilla bean, halved lengthwise
2 cinnamon sticks
1/4 tsp of ground nutmeg
2 cups of firmly packed brown sugar
4 peeled Packham pears or beurre bosc pears
Double cream or ice-cream, to serve
How to make your Poached pears with spices in syrup
Over medium heat, add 4 cups of cold water, sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla into a saucepan.
Now add in your pears and cook them, partially covered, for not more than 20 minutes or until they become tender.
Once done, remove the pears from heat and allow them to cool in syrup. Use a slotted spoon and transfer pears into a clean plate.
Fire the burner back up and cook syrup over medium-high heat. Bring the syrup to a boil for not more than 10 minutes or until syrup is reduced to at least a third.
Once done, serve pears with a drizzling of syrup and a generous scoop of ice cream.
